Ashington Cougars help develop football in Africa
Twelve months ago Ashington Cougars put its 5 year development plan together and achieved FA Charter Development Status.
The core focus was to provide quality football coaching for our players and to provide a positive contribution to the local community and 12 months on, the club has more than met these objectives.
October saw the club Sports Team of the Year - runners up in the County Times Community Awards but the club wanted to go further and when it became aware of the work of Derrick Williams and KitAid the club choose KitAid as the club’s charity.
Over 6 months the club, players and pupils at Ashington Community School have donated outgrown / spare kit which, once checked was shipped to a school in Zimbabwe, where it has been given to the children to promote the development of football.
“The club is very pleased to be able help the development of football in Africa” said Colin Steer the club’s chairman “and it is nice to know that there are teams in Africa playing in Ashington Cougars FC kit”.
