Bloomin’ Thakeham

Thakeham’s biennial Festival returns in July with a host of events and activities to suit all ages.

The weekend kicks off on Thursday, 28 July 2011 with the ever popular Art Exhibition preview. The exhibition remains open for the rest of the weekend when any unsold artwork will still be available to buy.

The Flower Festival itself opens at 10am on Friday morning and will be open until 6pm every day of the Festival. The theme this year challenging the flower ladies arranging skills is Thakeham Past & Present – a look at Thakeham Village life. Thakeham First School will also be contributing their own display to the Festival.

Friday night provides something different with Thakeham Rocks – always an exciting event. This year we are pleased to announce that The Hit Squad will be playing – a superb local band with maybe the odd guest musician.

Saturday sees something different yet again with a beautiful piano recital performed by Andrew Collett in St Mary’s Church.

The Festival ends with the now traditional Songs of Praise at 6pm on the Sunday. Leave your requests for hymns and songs of praise at St Mary’s during the Festival.

Other attractions, of which there should be something to please everyone, include Thakeham Morris, jazz in the pub, a family dog show, scarecrow competition (theme –“aliens”), country crafts and open gardens. There will also be refreshments available in the church hall throughout the weekend, ranging .from homemade cakes to light lunches and a BBQ.

Tickets for the evening events will go on sale at the end of June and will be available at The White Lion or from Wynn Lednor (01903 743025) and Liz (01903 746046).

Proceeds from the Festival this year will be donated to Chestnut Tree Hospice, Help for Heroes, Splash and St Mary’s, Thakeham.

Images of Thakeham – What Does Thakeham Mean to You? Uniquely, this year, the church will be encased in scaffolding whilst essential repairs to the roof are undertaken. This gives us a blank canvas on which to hang images submitted by the residents of Thakeham. We would love to receive your quintessential images of what, in your view, is special about Thakeham, both past and present, reflecting outside what the flower arrangements are depicting inside St Mary’s. Send your digital images to: liz@fiveoaksnight.plus.com and we will “hang” as many as we can onto the scaffolding around the church in our own unique way. We also hope to run a slideshow presentation of all the images at suitable times during the Festival.

For further information please contact: Wynn Lednor on 01903 743025 or Liz MacGregor, 01903 746046.
