Grand re-opening of the Storrington Museum May 9th
Creating an eclectic resource for the community is key for volunteers who are working hard to complete the refurbishment of Storrington and District Museum. Helpers have been busy redecorating the room in the Old School, School Lane, and new display cabinets have been donated by Horsham Museum which will improve the lighting and security of the collection.
Museum chairman Meg Everitt said: “One of the main drivers behind our refurbishment is to enable us to borrow artefacts from other collections, so that local people can visit us and see items which one would normally only see in large museums.
“We already have a gem of a collection and we feel very strongly we are enhancing and making more of this eclectic resource to the people of the district in more interesting and exciting temporary exhibitions.”
The museum plans to refresh its temporary exhibitions every two months, and these will be widely advertised to encourage new visitors of all ages.
Opening hours are also being changed with the aim of increasing attendance, and will now be 10am until 4pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The reopening is set for 11am on Sunday, May 9 with a family day including games, quizzes, and a village trail. Refreshments will be available.
A second chance to see the new layout comes on Friday May 14, when the museum is open 6.30pm-9.30pm to coincide with ‘Night Fever’, a weekend of evening opening for museums throughout Europe. More details will be available nearer the day, on posters around the area as well as the website www.storringtonmuseum.org.
