It should take you no longer than a weekend to fit a pond. Try to buy the whole pond package at the outset; it will give you a good idea of the overall cost and save you time and money in the long run.
There are 10 easy steps:
• Decide on the shape and size.
• Consider any shelves you would want to incorporate.
• Dig a hole for your pond (Exact size hole for liner or 10% larger hole than pre-formed pond for fibreglass and plastic ponds).
• Place liner or pre-formed pond in the hole.
• Partially fill 1/3 of the pond with water to check the level is straight and to remove all creases in the liner.
• With preformed ponds – backfill with excess soil or sand to secure pond in place.
• Decide what you want to edge your pond with; paving, turf or decking.
• Fill the rest of your pond with water and treat it with a de-chlorinator.
• Install a good quality filter and pump.
• Add pond plants for the finishing touch and then add fish one week later; once the de-chlorinator has matured in the water.
