New Eco Lodges Opened by the High Sheriff at Lodge Hill

Mr David Tupper, High Sheriff of West Sussex, officially opened 2 purpose-built Bradbury Eco Lodges at Lodge Hill Centre on Tuesday 23rd August. Those who attended included the County Commissioner, West Sussex Scouts, major sponsors, and Patrons, Supporters and Trustees of Lodge Hill.

The Eco Lodges offer self catering cost effective accommodation and disabled facilities for an additional 24 young people, at the Lodge Hill Educational & Activity Centre, Pulborough.

The timber lodges blend in well with the woodland campsite in the grounds of Lodge Hill, are roofed with recycled plastic tiles, use energy efficient insulation and heating and, to conserve water, use recycled rainwater in the toilets. As part of the environmental learning initiative for residential groups Smart meters have been installed to measure energy and water consumption. Groups staying in the lodges will be able to show both the cost effectiveness of rainwater harvesting, and its environmental benefit

The Eco Lodges are available to all young voluntary and educational groups, and interest has already been shown by disabled groups, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the Princes Trust. Those staying in the lodges will have use of over 20 Lodge Hill outdoor team building activities set in the 32 acres of woodland. Lodge Hill is accredited by “Learning Outside the Classroom”.

The new Lodges will contribute to the natural environment and will encourage youth enterprise and outdoor activity. Lodge Hill Trust is very grateful to all the sponsoring donors, notably the Bradbury Foundation, the Clothworkers’ Foundation, and Vivid Green UK who designed and built the Lodges.
