NOV 11 - Local Business: Why not give Pilates a go...
My name is Kerrie Chinn from B BalancedExercise: I run local Pilates and Extend classes in the West Sussex area. The classes range from general population back care and core stability, to mobility, fall prevention and rehabilitation for the less able.
I believe postural alignment and body awareness are key to forming a successful, holistic recovery from back pain. Postural awareness is a much needed life skill which can be hugely beneficial at any stage of life, easing pain, increasing fitness and coordination.
My interest, and indeed passion, for this type of exercise came from my own personal experience of recovery. Ever since qualifying as an Instructor in 2005, I have been expanding my training, giving me 7yrs teaching experience in both a class setting and personal tuition.
I have been trained by physiotherapists in remedial exercise and can therefore cater for those recovering from injury, chronic back complaints, pregnancy & post natal, and conditions such as sciatica, osteoporosis, arthritis, MS, ME, breast cancer, stroke, Parkinson’s and other debilitating illnesses.
My classes are small as I believe in knowing my clients and supervised individual progression in a class environment. I take referrals from practitioners and am happy to work with them, enhancing rehabilitation after physiotherapy or treatment.
It is my belief that a little goes a long way and that exercise need not be time-consuming, over-strenuous or expensive. My goal is to bring accessible and welcoming remedial exercise classes to the local community.
In this financial climate when money is tight, people tend to give up luxuries like gym membership. However, with the growing problems of obesity, back pain and with life expectancy rising, exercise is as important as it always has been for our health and wellbeing. Therefore, concessionary classes are needed.
Worthing & Adur council and local support groups are helping me to bring these classes to at-risk groups such as cancer and stroke sufferers to build a positive pro–active approach to recovery after hospital physiotherapy. The classes bridge the gap between remedial courses and general-population exercise forums. This means those who would ordinarily cease to exercise after treatment or injury will now have another option with classes that help to educate them, keep them well, mobile and independent for longer.
I hold 2 classes in Storrington: Pilates Back Care is suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their flexibility and posture and strengthen their core stabilisers. It is particularly beneficial for those who suffer from bad posture and back / joint pain.
My Extend class helps those less mobile and over 60 to improve their balance, coordination and muscle strength, within a relaxed social group. It is great for those unable to cope with more strenuous 50+ classes.
