Romance Blues?

With St Valentine’s Day just a bunch of red roses away, is love in the air in your life? Like Christmas, the day that celebrates love can be tinged with sadness if things are not ideal in the relationship department.

Financial pressures, children and the general humdrum of everyday living take their toll on any relationship and romance is often the last thing on your mind.
At Freedom Life Coaching, I can help people work through relationship issues - sometimes all it takes is a few simple changes.

You tend to get out of a relationship what you put in, so some effort is needed, but it needn’t be a monumental shift. You need to build in ‘couple time’ and work at your relationship.

If you are looking for love, Internet dating can be a good way to meet new people – all reputable dating sites will have guidelines about meeting individuals and “staying safe”.

Use this checklist to help:
• Don’t assume the relationship is over if romance has waned, this is common. Instead, try to remember what attracted you to your partner in the first place – usually those things are still there. Try to organise some surprise treats and fun things to do as a couple.

• Build in a regular catch-up time – go for a walk, enjoy a chat after dinner with a cuppa or glass of wine, when the roast is cooking or when the kids are watching a DVD. Communication is important.

• Make more family time – have a chat over dinner or a catch-up with hot chocolate and biscuits each weekend.

• Start a new interest together, walking is free, restorative and uplifting, or go sketching, see a film or play, visit your local leisure centre or scour the What’s On pages for inspiration.

• If money is tight, stay in and cook together and watch a film, if you still have children at home, despatch them to a friend or relative for a few hours.
