Rydon Community College - New Artificial Cricket Wicket

Roydon Community CollegeRydon Community College held a small celebratory opening of the new facility on 18 May with John Barclay, previously Captain of Sussex, past President MCC and Head ofArundel Castle Cricket Foundation. Headteacher, Mrs Allison Murphy introduced John Barclay to representatives of the College Cricket team who demonstrated their skills in the net during a coaching session.

With the help and support of Bill Hay, West Chiltington & Thakeham Cricket Club and Sussex Cricket Board, grant funding had been achieved in 2010 from the Lord’s Taverners and Star Energy Community Fund to provide an artificial cricket wicket and mobile net cage, costing just over £9000.

The pitch was successfully installed during the summer holidays 2010, too late for the facility to be used during the 2010 season, but is now in full use by pupils at the College.

It is proposed to establish a booking system to enable use by community groups.
