Sandgate Singers

Storrington’s local community choir, Sandgate Singers, are looking forward to an exciting spring season with rehearsals well underway for the March concerts under the musical direction of their new MD, Marc Yarrow.

From an early age, Marc has been involved in productions that have demonstrated his passion and talent across a range of musical genre; however, it is musical direction that is his greatest interest. Trained as a classical conductor, Marc has gained experience working with bands, choirs and orchestras. He has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe and has performed in some of the great venues including The Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the Millennium Centre in Cardiff and the O2 Arena, London. He has performed with the BBC and has been under the baton of many great conductors.

Marc says he feels privileged to be working as MD for Sandgate Singers and the choir is enjoying his enthusiastic and vivacious approach to music.

The choir is also pleased to welcome its new accompanist, Jeremy Weaver. A trained organist, accompanist and organ teacher, Jeremy is currently director of Music at Horsham Parish Church. His valuable experience of working with and training choristers, taking part in choir festivals and choir tours is a great asset to Sandgate and they look forward to rehearsing and performing concerts with him.

On Saturday 27th March, the choir will perform Faure’s Requiem and Karl Jenkins’ Sacred Songs at Our Lady of England Priory in Storrington. A 22-piece orchestra and two soloists will accompany the Requiem. Sacred Songs is a new compilation of pieces taken from some of Jenkins’ most popular works: The Armed Man, Stabat Mater and Requiem.

Tickets, priced at £8 are available from the Card Centre in Storrington or phone: 01798 813088.

The choir is also pleased to announce a performance at St Mary the Virgin Church in Petworth on Friday 26th March at 7.30pm. This is a new venue for Sandgate Singers and we hope residents from around the area will enjoy listening to us as much as we enjoy performing to them.

The choir has welcomed several new members this term and we are always happy to invite new people to join us. Details of the choir’s activities and future concerts can be found on the website: www.sandgatesingers.org.uk or telephone the secretary on 01903 742868.
