Storrington Community Hub Opens at 24-26 West Street!
Storrington’s Community Hub opened on Monday 6th September, when volunteers were on hand to point local residents in the right direction for all kinds of services.
Previously based at Forge House in Church Street, the Children and Family services there were taken on by Spurgeons, a faith based charity working with children, young people and families, on a temporary basis whilst 24 – 26 West Street has been refurbished.
Services run by the Community Hub, such as befrienders for older people, Community Transport Information, and Silver Surfers have continued on Mondays, but from Monday 6th September, these all transferred to their new West Street premises.
The Storrington & Sullington Community Partnership delivered the Community Hub services at Forge House, thanks to a grant from West Sussex County Council, but now they will be provided by the Partnership’s Trustees and their committed volunteers.
The Community Partnership’s office, as a registered Charity, is on the 1st floor of West Street, where there is a considerably improved amount of space, and it is hoped that some of the other organisations that currently provide a service from Forge House may be able to book rooms not in use by the Children & Family Centre.
Paul Mackie, Chair of the Storrington & Sullington Community Partnership that originally spearheaded the development of the Forge House project said “We are looking forward to working closely with Spurgeons over the next few months and years to ensure that West Street can become a focal point for all the community.
We have an excellent arrangement with Spurgeons in which we deliver our Community Hub services to personal callers on Mondays, and the Children & Family Centre reaches out to families and children during the rest of the week.”
Look out for more information on what happens on Mondays at West Street!
