Storrington Conservation Society

The talk by Jeff Hayden on Badgers was well attended.

He explained how the Badger Trust works for the protection of badgers and also the care needed to look after injured animals and to raise orphan cubs.

He then showed slides of animals in the wild and their setts and the methods used in feeding very young cubs. There was also a discussion on bovine tuberculosis, but he put the point that it was not proven that culling badgers would solve the problem.

Three of our members had recently rescued a sow badger from a snare at a local sett and he was able to tell us that she was recovering from her injuries. I can now add that she is now fully recovered and has been returned to her sett. At the end of the meeting several new members joined the Society.

Working parties have been busy in Old Mill Drive, West Street, by the Mill Pond and along Riverside Walk. On Saturday 4th June they will be working in Coppice Park from 10am until 12 noon. If you would like to join us and help to keep our village a green and pleasant place, phone John Beard on 743370 for details.
