Storrington Village Day 2010 - Donations

On Tuesday 28th September, at the Sullington Parish Hall, Storrington, presentations were made to the SPLASH, Chanctonbury Leisure Centre, Storrington 2464 Squadron ATC, Storrington Greenfingers, The Hooper & Downer Educational Foundation, and Rydon Community School, as a result of the monies raised from this year’s very successful Storrington Village Day in June.

The Donations, totalling £3,800, were made by representatives of the Village Day Committee, which is comprised of members of the 3 Service Clubs; Storrington Rotary Club, Storrington & District Round Table, and Chanctonbury Lions.

Splash:
The Donation is to support a regular Friday Night youth drop-in service in Sullington Parish Hall, including a sessional Youth Worker and a wide range of activities.

Chanctonbury Leisure Centre:
This donation is to assist in the purchase of much needed replacement equipment for the gym.

Storrington ATC:
The ATC which involves 30 young cadets will be using the donation to purchase Expedition compasses. These will enable the cadets to undertake orienteering, navigating, and use on Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions. 

Storrington Greenfingers:
This voluntary group plant-up and maintain the floral planters in Storrington, and will be using the donation to purchase plants, compost etc, to brighten up the Village centre.
The Hooper & Downer Educational Foundation: The donation will be used to enable local children and young people from needy backgrounds to take part in worthwhile projects of educational benefit.

Rydon School:
To support an initative to promote higher standards, by providing incentives to the pupils.

Storrington First School:
A separate presentation was made to Storrington First School, for support to their Kitchen Project, and 60 “Dictionaries 4 Life”, for classrooms, library, and prizegiving.

Chairman of Storrington Village Day Committee, Ken Collins said, “The Village Day Committee uses the surplus from the event to support community projects in the village, with particular emphasis to the youth of our area. I believe the wide range of Donations demonstrates one of the main aims and objectives of the Committee.”

Next Year:
The Village Day Committee is planning to organise the next Village day on Saturday 25th June in 2011.
