Thakeham Residents to be Issued 'Green Cards'
The annual Village Day at Thakeham on 19th June will see the launch of the “Greening Thakeham” campaign, an initiative to encourage the parish’s 700+ households to go green, reducing CO2 emissions while also saving money.
The campaign (part of the rapidly growing nationwide Greening Campaign), invites households to achieve five out of nine possible green challenges and, having done so, to display a Greening Thakeham card in their window. These cards are then counted some weeks later so that the total CO2 savings achieved can be calculated … and celebrated.
As well as the main “Greening Thakeham” stall, many other stallholders will be embracing the theme with demonstrations to illustrate the various challenges, from washing laundry at 30o to composting and turning off lights. Local school children will also be getting involved and entertaining the crowd. Contests, challenges and a quiz will offer visitors the opportunity to take part, have some fun and win some suitably green prizes.
The campaign organisers hope even to involve the tug-of-war teams and strong man competitors in the Greening theme, a challenge if ever there was one! So come to Thakeham on the afternoon of 19th June to see what they get up to!
