The Mary How Trust Annual Golf Day - 15th July 2010

The 3rd annual Mary How Trust Golf Tournament was a day of torrential rain – and terrific golf.

As Louis Oosthuizen and Tiger Woods braced themselves against stormy weather at St Andrews, further south at West Chiltington Golf Club, not one but two holes in one were made in the driving wind and rain!

Carol Kennard, of Worthing Golf Club, was the first to make a hole in one, at the 13th.  Brian O’Neill, of West Chiltington Golf Club, followed with a hole in one at the 11th. Golfers cheered as the extraordinary news spread.

The hole in one challenges were generously sponsored by PMA Motor Factors of Cranleigh, and Carol and Brian will each be awarded a set of Callaway Diablo Edge irons.

Despite the bad weather, the 96 golfers who took part in the golf tournament made the day go with a swing. There was a fantastic atmosphere, with players from local clubs as well as from further afield: the tournament boasted teams from London and Kent, Bristol and Somerset.

The winning team – Alan Constantine (West Chiltington GC), David Constantine, Carol Kennard and Alan Harris (Worthing GC) – scored 80 points and won vouchers for American Golf, kindly donated by Spofforths LLP.

Guy Leonard, a trustee of the Mary How Trust for Cancer Prevention, presented the prizes to the winning teams, and on behalf of the charity, thanked everyone who had worked so hard to make the day a success.
   
The Mary How Trust estimates that a superb £4,500 has been raised for its health screening service.

Stuart Trownson, the general manager of the Mary How Trust – and a golfer who took part in the event – says, “We’ve received tremendous support from the West Chiltington Golf Club and the local community.

Local businesses have sponsored the event, and golfers and volunteers have pulled together to raise funds and have a great time doing so!  It’s a fantastic team effort for a great cause.”
