The Post Office Vehicle Rally - Sunday 18th April 2010

The Post Office Vehicle Rally has become an established event at Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre and is being held on Sunday 18th April.  Once again rally participants and visitors will have the opportunity to see probably the widest range of both postal and telephone engineering vehicles spanning eight decades, gathered in one location at the Museum situated in the South Downs National Park.

A range of demonstrations covering both old and new telecom engineering techniques will run throughout the day:-
•  Pole testing demonstrations
•  Fibre optic and copper jointing
•  Openreach demonstrations of the latest tools, techniques and uses of networks
•  Blown fibre display

There will also be a colouring competition for children and an active telegram service, a fascinating demonstration of how messages were transmitted at the time the service ceased in 1982.

The Post Office Vehicle Club (co–organisers of the event), BT Archives, The British Postal Museum & Archive and The Letterbox Study Group will be in attendance with their displays and a fantastic opportunity to see and purchase models from specialist die-cast model makers Roxley.

The Museum will be open every Tuesday – Sunday, including Bank Holidays and Mondays during West Sussex school holidays, throughout the season.  Situated within the South Downs National Park in 36 acres of chalk quarry the Museum boasts a range of live exhibits including a free historic bus service and narrow gauge railway, electricity hall, BT Connected Earth plus much more.
